"Mistletoe and Holly"

by Louis Joseph Rota
(Glenside,Pa.)

Mistletoe and holly
Presents gay and bright
Gifts of whim and folly
Neath a tree on Christmas night

A tree all trimmed with tinsel
Christmas balls so grand
This tree has served its purpose
And proudly does it stand

It seems a tree should find a home
To make the yuletide bright
Not end up on a vacant lot
Alone on Christmas night

But does anyone ever notice The trees that still remain
These trees without fulfillment
The trees that died in vain

This year I'm going to get one
No one would buy but me
Then take it home and dress it up
To be a Christmas tree
