IN MEMORY OF VETS

by JOE MEANEY

A DAY OF REMEMBERANCE , FOR THOSE WHO DIED ,
A DAY OF COMPASSION , FOR THOSE STILL ALIVE ,
WITH MISSING LIMBS AND TORTURED SOULS ,
I OFTEN WONDER WHAT WERE OUR GOALS .

THEY FOUGHT AND DIED FOR LIBERTY ,
INSURING OUR COUNTRY WOULD ALWAYS BE FREE ,
BUT SATISFACTION IS NOT WHAT WE SEE ,
ONLY EVOULUTION OF THE SOCIALIST TREE .

WHERE IS OUR GOD , OUR COUNTRY , FLAG ?
MY EYES ARE TEARED , MY HEART IS SAD ,
OUR FAMILY VALUES HAVE DISAPPEARED ,
OUR MUTUAL RESPECT IS IN ARREARS .

OH ! HOW I LONG FOR DAYS GONE BY ,
WHEN VETERANS WERE LIKE APPLE PIE ,
THE NORTH , THE SOUTH , THE EAST , THE WEST ,
THERE WASN`T A PLACE THEY WERE NOT THE BEST ,

OH GOD BRING BACK THE GOLDEN KEY ,
PLEASE OPEN THE DOOR FOR ALL TO SEE ,
AMERICA`S GREATNESS , HER MAJESTY,
TO HONER THOSE WHO DIED , FOR YOU AND ME .
